What is the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Apitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)?

Taking the PSAT/NMSQT encourages Rockwall ISD high school students to start thinking seriously about life after high school, about their preferred college and career goals, and about the post-high school education students will need to achieve those goals. The PSAT/NMSQT has been designed to mirror the SAT and provides students with a detailed score report to show individual strengths and weaknesses pertaining to college readiness. The Student Search Service gives PSAT/NMSQT test-takers the option to voluntarily place their names and addresses in a pool of college-bound students interested in receiving admission and financial aid information from certified colleges, universities and scholarship agencies. 11th Grade students taking the PSAT/NMSQT can qualify for National Merit Scholarships as well as other college scholarships. Finally, the PSAT/NMSQT also provides valuable information to parents and students on their student potential for advanced academic courses in high school.

    When is the PSAT/NMSQT taken?

All Rockwall ISD 10th and 11th Grade students will have the opportunity to take the Digital PSAT/NMSQT free of charge on their home campus on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. All students in these grades will be automatically registered to take the PSAT on this date.

Any home-schooled students living within Rockwall ISD boundaries can take the PSAT at Quest Academy that day for a nominal fee. Please contact Michele Jensen, the Quest Academy counselor, for more information.

What should students bring on the day of the PSAT?

◾ The Digital PSAT has an integrated Demos graphing calculator into the testing platform. However, students can use their own approved calculator (four-function, scientific, or graphing calculators – students may not share calculators). College Board approved calculators can be found at this link.

    ◾ Email address (optional)

◾ A current and valid school/government issued photo ID
