The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

AVID, a campus-wide college readiness support system, is offered on all five Rockwall ISD secondary campuses.  In the AVID elective class, students use writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading strategies to enable them to master rigorous academic coursework and prepare for post-secondary success.  In addition, organizational skills such as goal-setting, note-taking, and time management are emphasized, and support for success in advanced courses and college readiness is offered in Socratic tutorial sessions.  Students who demonstrate academic potential and determination are identified and then must apply for the AVID elective class.  AVID Site Coordinators/Teams review student applications and interview students to determine who would most benefit being an AVID student.
