  • ANNOUNCEMENTS: Wednesday, November 8, 2017

    • To start off a rainy day with some great news, we had several RHS seniors sign to colleges this morning. For track, Savanah McKenzie signed to Texas A&M Commerce.  For baseball, Brooks Helmer signed to Baylor University, and Bennett Laurence and Diego Muniz both signed to the University of Oklahoma.
    • Faith Mason-Vestal signed to Newman University for basketball, and Amanda Armstrong signed to Texas A&M University for swimming. Darryan Welborn signed to Stephen F. Austin for softball. Congratulations to all of our athletes who signed this morning.
    • Have your chance to be a global leader! Join Model United Nations for their meeting tomorrow after school in room 2602.
    • FCA meets this Friday in the cafeteria annex at 7:45am. Macy McCartney will lead the meeting and everyone is welcome.
    • Fishing Club meets in Coach Marshall's room 3605 tomorrow morning at 8. If you are fishing this weekend in the Lake Fork Tournament, please plan to be in attendance.
    • Interested in testing your science knowledge against students across the nation? Mrs. Lewis in room 3604 will host a virtual UIL Science meet in her room next week. There are four times available for you to meet with her and complete the challenge. Monday and Wednesday after school at 4:00 and Tuesday and Friday before school at 8:00. Let's see how Rockwall High ranks in UIL Science!
    • RHS Theatre will host a showcase this Friday that benefits the students attending the International Thespian Festival. The showcase will feature monologues and duet scenes, along with a coffee, tea, and dessert will also be served.
    • RHS Orchestra will hold a Veteran’s Day concert tomorrow at 7:00 in the Utley PAC to honor those who have served our country.
    • Rockwall’s cheerleaders will perform the 2017 Cheer Cabaret at the Utley PAC this Saturday. The mascots and cheerleaders have worked extremely hard for their production of “Heroes and Legends.”
    • In addition to the cheerleaders, “Heroes and Legends” features the national award winning Stingerette Showstoppers, and our very own Walk the Line.
    • The color guard will hold winterguard auditions November 13th through 15th in the RHS band hall. Football season might be coming to an end, but our guards aren’t done yet.
    • Our Faculty vs. Students basketball game is just a week away. For those that have signed up, you will need to have the waiver on file by this Friday in order to play in the game.  If you have not received one, or need a new one, stop by the counseling center so that you can get it signed. 
    • If you are signed up, the teams meet in the lecture hall this Thursday, at 8:15, to go over the game. Remember this is for a good cause, and tickets to the game will cost $2 or 2 cans of food. We want to help give to those that are in need PLUS show Heath how this is supposed to be done. Who will win?  Faculty? Students?  Who is REALLY ready to get their game on?
    • The Lady Jackets swept their home opener in an exciting fashion against Little Elm. The Varsity won 62-34. Faith Mason-Vestal led the team with 12 points, followed by Jordan Mathis with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
    • JV won 40-27 led by Kasja Johnson with 12 points. Finally, Freshman won 42-16 led by Tristan Pettis with 15 points.

    • If you’re a 9th or 10th grader interested in community service: Rockwall has a new community service group. “For All Mankind” meets Tuesday, November 7th, in room 2507. Come out and help change the community one person at a time.
    • Be a global leader! Join Model United Nations for their meeting this Thursday afterschool in room 2602.
    • The first Science Club meeting is today after school in Mrs.Gilliland’s room.
    • Interested in testing your Science knowledge against other students across the nation? Mrs. Lewis in room 3604 will host a virtual UIL Science meet in her room next week!     • Asian Cultural Club is having a Cosplay party tomorrow before and after school in room 2609. Come and learn about the art of cosplay. Please bring food or $3 for provided food. Remember, don’t come in with costumes on!
    • We are thrilled to announce that the Rockwall High School Counseling Department was recently awarded the 2017 Lone Star State Award for Counseling Excellence. This award recognizes effective and outstanding school counseling programs in the state of Texas. They will recognize the Rockwall High School counseling team at the 2017 annual conference next week in Frisco.
    • This friday marks the end of the second six weeks and the counseling center will begin a second round of calling kids in who are failing 3 or more classes.
    • Rockwall, we did it! We came together as a school and gave channel 8 what they had been looking for! Congratulations to RHS, the most spirited high school in North Texas.

    • The RHS Counseling team is excited to sponsor  our annual Student vs. Faculty Charity basketball game next Wednesday. The goal is to raise $1,500 in cash and over 1500 cans of food to help those in need in our community. Tickets are sold starting November 13th for $2 or 2 cans of food.

    • Jackets, make sure to dress up for decade day tomorrow! Freshmen have the Swinging Sixties. Sophomores have the Groovy Seventies. Juniors have the awesome eighties and the seniors are bringing back the nineties.

     

     WFAA will be at the pep rally tomorrow and RHS is eligible for an award, so please don’t forget to show your school spirit and dress for the decades!  

     

    • Senior Directed show is tomorrow! Come watch these scenes directed by our talented class of 2018.
    • The students who made the All-Region choir will perform at the Allen Performing Arts Center on November 4. And next Thursday don’t miss the Veteran’s Day Concert at 7:00pm in the RHS PAC featuring our talented orchestra.
    • If you ordered a Gober Nation shirt you can pick it up in room 2404. Make sure to get them before tomorrow and wear it to the game to show that our Jacket Fight Never Dies.

    • Picture Retake Day is Thursday, November 16. If you purchased a photo packet on the original picture day and would like to retake your picture you must return the prints and give them to the photographer. You cannot keep the original prints and receive new ones.

    • The ASL club has their annual Silent Dinner tomorrow at CiCi’s Pizza at 5:00 p.m.  Bring money for your meal and plan on having “Voices Off” as you enjoy dinner.
    • Eye to Eye Peer Mediation needs you!  Pick up applications to be a mediator in Dr. Kindred’s office Room 2726. The deadline is tomorrow at 4.
    • Congrats to the cast of the RHS fine arts production of Oklahoma!
    • RHS will be full of Entertainment this Friday! First, the senior night pep rally will be held. This features, “Let’s Get it Started” by Walk the Line and the Stingerettes will be performing a dance to “Look what you made me do” by Taylor Swift.
    • Then Friday night, RHS Theater’s senior directed show will premiere for one night only. Mark your calendars because you don’t want to miss our fantastic senior class.
    • Saturday is the All Region Choir Concert. Please come out and support you YellowJacket choir!

     

    CARSON: For Halloween, we bring you a spooky fact. Did you know that Halloween is more Irish than St. Patrick's Day. Its origins come from a Celtic festival for the dead called “Samhain.” Celts believed the ghosts of the dead roamed Earth on this holiday, so people would dress in costumes and leave “treats” out on their front doors to appease the roaming spirits.

    • Speaking of wins, our Lady Jackets Volleyball team is making their way into the playoffs. We recently spoke to Coach Wilson about how the Lady Jackets are preparing to win.
    • Tonight the RHS volleyball team plays their first playoff game against College Park at Jewett Leon High School at 6. Come out and support the lady jackets as they head into the playoffs.

     Thank you to everyone that created banners for Red Ribbon week. Everyone’s banners are displayed in the cafeteria, so make sure to take a look. Now, the winner of the ice cream party is…...Drum roll please…... Senora Parker’s advisory period.

    •  It’s Red Ribbon Week. Join us as we take a stand against drugs. Today we are joining teens, parents, teachers, and other citizens across America in celebrating Red Ribbon Week, the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation. Did you know that 23.5 million Americans are addicted to drugs and alcohol? This averages to almost the entire population of Texas.
    • Drug abuse and addiction costs American society close to $200 billion in health care, criminal justice, and lost workplace production a year.
    • The Library will be closed tomorrow so AcDec can prepare for their meet on Saturday.
    • Do you have an old phone you don’t need anymore? Donate your old cell phones in the barrels located in Mr. SHARB’S room.
    • UIL Science is looking for students who excel in Biology, Chemistry and Physics to compete on the UIL Academic Science team. Pick up an informational packet from the bulletin board outside room 3602 if you’re interested in competing.

    • Starting November 3rd, Rockwall High School will be full of fresh entertainment! On November 3rd the 2017 “Senior Directed Show” debuts.
    • The All Region choir members will perform at the All Region concert on November 4th. Please come out and support you YellowJacket choir!

    • Join us in celebrating Red Ribbon Week. Today, banners made by RHS clubs, organizations, students, and administration are hanging in the RHS hallways. These banners display the important message of living an alcohol, drug, and tobacco free lifestyle.
    • Did you know that almost 1 in every 4 teens in America say they have misused or abused a prescription drug? And someone is injured in a drunk driving incident every 2 minutes.
    • Moving on to the news for today, the RHS Library will be closed on Friday, October 27th so that AcDec can prepare for their meet on Saturday.
    • If you would like for your club or organization to be announced on jacket tv please email jackettvrhs@gmail.com and we will get in the show.
    • We are also looking for video stories, if you would like us to come and interview your club officers or film any service activities you are doing please contact us.

    • The crime stoppers are looking for help regarding criminal activity that occurred Oct 7. Someone poured paint over several parking spaces in the student parking lot damaging the artwork that was in the parking space.  If anyone has information regarding this offense you could be eligible for a reward from The Rockwall County Crimestoppers.
    • Looking for volunteer hours? Rockwall AcDec needs volunteers to help with a competition this Saturday. See Mrs. Hinton in room 2514 for more details.

    • Next Friday the RHS Theatre Program will host a “Senior Directed” show. The show is a mashup of duet scenes starring Juniors and underclassmen but casted, directed, and produced by the seniors. Tickets will cost $5 for students and $10 for adults.
    • The All Region choir members will attend and perform at the All Region concert on November 4th. Please wish all members of the mixed choir, treble choir, and honor choir.
    • Make sure to attend the concert and clinic which will be held on December 8th and 9th at Allen High School.
    • Seniors. It’s time to order your cap and gowns. Tomorrow during all lunches, senior girls can order cap and gowns with a $50 down payment. And on Thursday senior boys can order their cap and gowns.
    • Juniors, if you haven’t ordered your class ring yet, make up orders for girls are tomorrow and Thursday for boys.
    • It has been a great season for the lady jacket volleyball teams. The lady jackets will play the Heath hawks tonight at home.  JV will play at 5:30 and varsity will play at 6:30.  Tonight is also senior night, so come support our seniors and the rest of the lady jacket volleyball team as they face the hawks in their last district game.
    • This Friday at 7:30 be sure to come and watch the yellow jacket football team as they face the Tyler Lee Raiders. The game will be played at Wilkerson Sanders Stadium. This Friday is also Rockwall’s pink out day for Breast Cancer, so be sure wear pink while also supporting your yellow jackets.
    • Seniors, the last day to purchase a senior yearbook ad is Friday, October 27. Please see Mrs. Applegate in room 1401 during 5th period for more information.
    • The last day to purchase a yearbook at the lowest price of $65 is this Friday. You can purchase a book online at jostensyearbooks.com OR to pay by cash or check, fill out a form in room 1401 and drop it off with Mrs. Applegate. The price will increase at midnight!

    ANNOUNCEMENTS: Monday, October 16, 2017

    • If you need some Yellow Jacket fan gear, please talk to a Lady Jacket basketball player. They will sell spirit wear through October 26th.
    • There will be a National Technical Honor Society meeting on Thursday morning in room 1411 at 8:10.  Please come to see if this is a club for you!  There are some GPA and course requirements. If you can’t make the meeting, please stop by Mrs. Webb’s room (1411) to find out more.
    • FCA will hold a meeting this Friday at 7:45am in the cafeteria annex. Samantha Bean will be leading the meeting and free donuts will be provided.
    • The first Piano Club meeting of the year is tomorrow, at 8:05 in room 2911. If you ride the bus and come in later that's okay. Please join us for FREE donuts, listen to piano music and make friends. You do not have to be in Piano class to be in Piano Club.
    • UIL Science is looking for students who excel in Biology, Chemistry or Physics to compete on the UIL Academic Science team. Pick up an informational packet from the bulletin board outside room 3602 if you’re interested in competing.
    • The time is finally here. The first Jacket Feast of this year is this Friday during all lunches. Food trucks will be in the parking lots during all lunches, so bring 10 to 15 dollars.
    • The Lady Jackets Volleyball reached an amazing milestone: Coach Wilson reached the 500th win of her career. Additionally, the Dig Pink Night was a huge success!  With help from the Rockwall community, the volleyball program was able to raise over $2,000 that will help support two Rockwall High School teachers in their battle with breast cancer.
    • The RHS Student Council is sponsoring a Red Ribbon Week Banner contest. All clubs and organizations are encouraged to design a banner for Red Ribbon week. This year’s theme is “Your Future is Key, So Stay Drug Free.” The banners must be turned in by October 23rd. The winning banner’s group will be treated to an ice cream soda party during Study Hall. To pick up the required paper, visit room 1403.
    • Melancholy Play will be on October 19th to 21st at 7:00pm at the RHS Theatre. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
    • Socktober is back with new designs! The IB students will be selling socks during all lunches throughout the month of October. For $12 you get to walk away with three pairs of socks. All funds go to help amputees across the world get access to prosthetic limbs.

    • The Business Professionals of America (BPA) membership deadline is tomorrow. Stop by room 2404 to turn in dues, and to check out contest topics. BPA is a chance to compete, travel, and network.
    • The first meeting of the Billiards and Chess Club will also be tomorrow at 3:45 pm until 4:30 pm in the RHS Library.
    • The Asian Cultural Club officer forms are due Monday October 9th at 4:00. IF you’re interested, you can pick up a form in room 2609.
    • The GSA Club will meet today after school in Mrs. White’s room 2617 to work on the homecoming parade float.
    • Last year the Rockwall High School PTA hosted the "Successful Scholarship Applications" program. This year, the Rockwall-Heath PTA is hosting. The meeting takes place in the Rockwall-Heath High School Cafeteria on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m.
    • Scholarship applications are now available on the Texas PTA website! Texas PTA offers $500 scholarships to eligible faculty members and $1,000 to eligible high school seniors. Join the RHS PTA today to complete your first step toward eligibility. All applications are due by Friday, December 1.
    • The RHS Student Council will sponsor a Blood Drive on Friday, October 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Signing up to participate will begin on Friday, October 6 in the RHS Nurse's Office. Parents, teachers and students (age 16 with parent permission or 17 and older and who weigh at least 110 pounds) are encouraged to participate.
    • Socktober is back with new designs! The IB students will be selling socks during all lunches throughout the month of October. For $12 you get to walk away with three pairs of socks. All funds go to help amputees across the world get access to prosthetic limbs.
    • This week is homecoming week and obviously Hallie and I aren’t doing great at spirit wear. But tomorrow’s spirit wear is Cowboy’s vs Aliens. Dress as either a cowboy or an alien to launch the lobos.

    • Last year the Rockwall High School PTA hosted the "Successful Scholarship Applications" program. This year, the Rockwall-Heath PTA is hosting. You don’t want to miss this very informative program. The meeting takes place in the Rockwall-Heath High School Cafeteria on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m.  Scholarship applications are now available on the Texas PTA website! Texas PTA offers $500 scholarships to eligible faculty members and $1,000 to eligible high school seniors. Join the RHS PTA today to complete your first step toward eligibility.     • The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be held this Friday at 7:45am in the cafeteria annex. Ginger Stephenson will lead the meeting and free donuts will be provided.
    • Today after school, Jacket TV will hold auditions for new anchor positions. You must have turned in an audition packet. If you haven’t, then you can’t audition.

    • Last weekend, the Rockwall Cross-country team competed the Lake Highlands Invitational at Norbuck Park. The boys had a great weekend winning their first meet of the year.  On the girls side, they ran the elite division this week. The JV girls had a good weekend also finishing 2nd and earning their first trophy of the year. The JV boys had a better weekend at Lake Highlands finishing 6th overall as a team.
    • It’s match day, Rockwall! Tonight the Jackets volleyball takes on the Skeeters at Mesquite High School. Good luck ladies!
    • Class of 2018, your class dues of $100 will be due no later than December 15th. This money pays for your prom ticket. Please take your dues to Mrs. Purnell’s room 1404. It celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.     • The Varsity Tennis team traveled over to Mesquite Horn yesterday to play the Jaguars! They defeated the Jags  20-1! Way to go Jackets! They will play Kaufman this Friday at home, so come over to the stadium before you head to volleyball game or head out to Southlake because we will be there playing @ 3:45pm!!
    • The RHS Jackets Volleyball took on the Lobos of Longview in their second district match. Varsity finished off the Lobos in a fourth set. The JV continued the winning streak by overwhelming the Lobos in straight sets. The freshman dismantled Longview, and both the A and B team beat the lobos. Way to go jackets!

    • Membership is exclusively for Juniors and Seniors with a 3.5 GPA, applications for membership and requirements are available from your Social Studies classes or in room 1510 from Mrs. Krikorian or Mrs. Eidson. Applications are due Tuesday September 19th by 4:00pm.

    • This Friday Rockwall plays Southlake Carroll at the Dragon Stadium starting at 7:30. This is the first district game so you don’t want to miss it.
    • Much like we challenged Rockwall ISD to support hurricane Harvey victims at our first home game, Carroll ISD is challenging 11 campuses to participate in a gift card drive for Southeast Texas schools, and the winner will be announced during our game on friday night.

    • Rockwall High School Student Council, PALS and Helping Hands, collected supplies and personal items as part of a Hurricane Harvey relief effort last friday night at the game. The RHS community donated over sixty five thousand pounds of supplies needed.  A big thank you to those who showed their support.
    • In sports news, the RHS volleyball team needs you at the home game tonight at Rockwall. The JV plays Sachse at 5:30 and Varsity plays Sachse at 6:30.

    • Also, pet products, Insulin, cell phone chargers feminine hygiene products, power strips ,wet wipes, and clothing (especially in XL & XXL sizes)
    • Many of our own faculty and students have family that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey, and these small donations that you bring tomorrow to the stadium come with a big thank you for helping out.

    • Speaking of girl power, the Lady Jackets remain unbeaten on their home court after outlasting a talented squad from McKinney. Rockwall ended with a 15-10 win to seal the match. In the end, it took exceptional ball control to help Rockwall beat the Lions.
    • The junior varsity improved to 4-0 in impressive fashion Tuesday night, eliminating McKinney in 2 sets. Congrats to both the Varsity and JV teams.

    • Speaking of rules, it’s time to meet the new man in charge of keeping our school safe and in order. It’s time to meet Officer Gaines.

      Introduction:  Hello, I am Officer Gaines with the Rockwall Police Department.  I will be the School Resource Officer at Rockwall High School this year.  I would like to welcome you back to school and start by advising you of some safety and parking concerns around Rockwall High School.

      Safety:  Changes in Traffic Patterns when entering the driveway from Kyle Dr.  Students for your safety when you are crossing Yellow Jacket please make sure you activate the cross walk caution lights by pushing the button and use the crosswalk to cross.

      Parking:   The area on Kyle St in front of the football stadium has been an issue in the past with people parking where it is not authorized.  If you park in an area where there is a NO PARKING sign posted or the curb is painted as a no parking area you will be ticketed so please avoid parking in these areas.  If you need me for anything my Office is in room # 2509 I will be happy to help any way I can.

    • Thank you, Officer Gaines. For those of you new to Rockwall, we have three lunches during your fifth period class. Teachers if you will go over this with your students today before fifth period.
